Effective Ways To Boost Your Income As A Creative Freelancer

March 5, 2023

As a freelancer, the ability to increase earning power ultimately rests in your hands. There’s no waiting for an employer to offer a raise the same way that a salaried employee does. As a matter of fact, you can proceed to earn four times more than currently within a relatively short period of time.

The fact is there are tons of clients out there who are willing to add to that imaginary figure that might seem so hard to attain. Many are willing to pay even more. By following these tips, find higher-paying clients and multiply your income.

Become Available On Social Media

It might sound like a piece of cheap advice that you’ve probably heard countless times, but you’d be shocked by what you can achieve. “Proper practice” means doing more than uploading a profile picture and bio plus a list of achievements and skills. It means building a network and presence in your field.

Apart from LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram are platforms to make your presence heard and find high-paying clients, although this depends on the type of service offered. Read up on the web about the best LinkedIn practices to optimize your profile and position yourself as one of the best freelance professionals in your field.

Stay In Touch With A Few Important Individuals

While blasting cold emails can be a goldmine if done effectively, focusing on a few individuals can be very rewarding too. These have to be people that you’re certain can make a big impact one way or the other.

Reach out to these individuals and catch up with them. The trick is not to come across as if seeking help or asking them for work. Sometimes, just that subtle reminder that you’re still around can help. They could refer you to other clients or bring you into projects they’re working on.

Charge Higher!

This goes for both old and new clients. Many freelancers suffer from the fear of asking for higher rates because they feel it will chase clients away. While it’s true that some clients will be discouraged, with the right tactics, you can convince some to pay more.

For old clients, make a play that your rates are increasing by 15% but as a discount, you’ll only ask for a 10% increase. For new clients, try charging 30–50% more than normal and negotiate from there.
